Q-balls in the MSSM

چکیده

Non-topological solitons have been studied in a variety of models [1]. One particular type of such solitons, Q-balls [1,2], are present in the spectrum of a theory, whenever it satisfies the conditions outlined below. This class of theories includes the MSSM and other supersymmetric generalizations of the Standard Model. Surprisingly, the rich phenomenology associated with the solitonic sector of the MSSM has not been explored until very recently [3,4]. As a toy model, let us consider a field theory with a scalar potential U(φ) that has a global minimum U(0) = 0 at φ = 0. Let U(φ) have an unbroken global U(1) symmetry at the origin, φ = 0. And let the scalar field φ have a unit charge with respect to this U(1). The charge of some field configuration φ(x, t) is

Q-balls in the Mssm

A Q-ball is a stable, charge Q soliton in a scalar field theory with a spontaneously broken global U(1) symmetry . The Q-ball solution arises provided the scalar potential V (φ) is such that V (φ)/|φ|2 has a minimum at non-zero φ. In the MSSM such solitons are necessarily part of the spectrum of the theory, as was first pointed out by Kusenko . This is due to the form of the MSSM scalar potenti...

Supersymmetric Q-balls: theory and cosmology

MSSM predicts the existence of Q-balls, some of which can be entirely stable. Both stable and unstable Q-balls can play an important role in cosmology. In particular, Affleck–Dine baryogenesis can result in a copious production of stable baryonic Q-balls, which can presently exist as a form of dark matter. Q-Balls and Baryogenesis in the MSSM

We show that Q-balls naturally exist in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with soft SUSY breaking terms of the minimal N=1 SUGRA type. These are associated with the Fand D-flat directions of the scalar potential once radiative corrections are taken into account. We consider two distinct cases, corresponding to the ”HuL” (slepton) direction with L-balls and the ”ucdcdc” and ”ucucd...

Constraining Modular Inflation in the MSSM from Giant Q-Ball Formation

We discuss constraints on which flat directions can have large vacuum expectation values (VEVs) after inflation. We show that only flat directions which are not charged under B-L and develop positive pressure due to renormalization group effects can have large VEVs of order MPl. For example, within the MSSM only the HuHd flat direction is found to be viable. This strongly constrains the embeddi...

Excited Q-Balls in the MSSM with gravity mediated supersymmetry breaking

Excited Q-balls are studied by numerical simulations in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with supersymmetry broken by a gravity mediated mechanism. It is found that there is a suppression factor of O(10−2) in the rate at which a Q-ball can emit their excess energy compared to the rate set by the dynamical scale of the field, m. Furthermore, it is noted that a Q-ball can withstand a lar...
